- Playa Conchal: Crushed white shell, bright and hot underfoot, with little shade. The public way in is the walk along the sand from Brasilito. Swim from the edge.
- Reserva Conchal golf: The course on the hill is the morning, not a pause between swims. Tee off while it is still cool. You will not finish it at lunch. Start cool.
- Brasilito Beach: Darker sand and the local beach next door, with more trees than the shell and a few fishing boats. Swim it in the morning, before the chop.
- Sugar Beach: The road ends at a small cove north of Potrero. The water is calm early. The afternoon wind is what ends the swim, so do not leave it for later.
- Playa Penca: A short crescent between Flamingo and Potrero. The point outside takes the swell, so the pocket stays easier. Go before the breeze chops it.
- Conchal shell beach: The shell is loose, white, and quick to heat. Do not drive on it. Walk in from the neighboring sand and swim from the waterline, not the middle.
- Brasilito estuary: Mangrove and birds sit behind the town beach. It is an estuary, not a second swim. Walk the edge in the morning, when the birds are working.
- Snorkeling at Conchal: Use the mask on the side rocks, and only in the morning. Later the wind lifts shell dust and the bay goes milky. It is not a wall dive.
- Flamingo Marina day trip: A short drive north to a working dock. You can walk it without booking. Ask what leaves in the morning, then decide if you want to be on it.
- Sunset at Brasilito: The town beach holds the sunset better than the shell, which has no trees. Arrive with time to find a seat. The light goes once it hits the point.
The landscape is white-sand beach, golf hills, and dry forest. You are likely to see howler monkeys, white-faced capuchins, magpie jays, iguanas and coatis. The plants around them are tropical dry forest of guanacaste, pochote and beach almond, with mangrove in the estuaries.
Around Reserva Conchal, howlers and magpie jays are in the dry forest at first light. Coatis work the edge of the hills early. By noon the beach is sun and people, not animals.
Brasilito nest watches and community beach cleanups, with vehicle limits that keep Conchal's shell beach intact.
In Reserva Conchal, nesting beaches need low lights and a guide who follows the rules. On the trails, stay on the marked path.
The climate is tropical dry. It is hot, about 28–33°C. Little rain falls from December to April. Afternoon showers fall from May to November. Playa Conchal sits at sea level.
In the greener months the morning is still usable, and the rain tends to wait until afternoon. The countrywide calendar is in the best time to visit Costa Rica.
The nearest airport is Daniel Oduber in Liberia. Juan Santamaría in Alajuela is the other option. From the Central Valley the road crosses mountains, so the drive takes longer than the map says.
The drive is simple until the last kilometers. Arrive in daylight if you do not know the road. Buses, shuttles, and rental cars are compared in getting around Costa Rica.
