Limón is the whole Caribbean, not only the port. Cahuita, Puerto Viejo, and Manzanillo sit on the coast road south of the city. Tortuguero is Limón too, and there is no road to it. Rain can fall here in any month, which is the fact a Pacific itinerary keeps forgetting.

Limón province is the entire Caribbean side, from the canals near the Nicaragua border down to the Panama border past Manzanillo. Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, Manzanillo, Tortuguero, and the city of Limón are the places on this site.

The port is where you change buses. The beach trip is the coast south of it, or the canals to the north. Do not judge the province by the blocks around the dock.
