- Biesanz WoodworksThe wood workshop is in the hills, not in the mall. You watch bowls turned from hardwood. Ask before you drive up; it does not run like a shop.
- Multiplaza EscazúThe mall below town has shops, food, and a cinema when rain hits. Useful if you are already here. It is not why you come up from the capital.
- Escazú Central ParkSan Miguel's square is the older center: church, benches, slower than the mall below. Walk it. You are not on the restaurant street downhill.
- Avenida EscazúThe open street is restaurants and shops, best after late afternoon. Walk the length of it. It is not a lookout, and it is not the old park.
- Pico BlancoThe pale cliff behind town is a rough morning walk. Mud is normal in the wet months. By afternoon, cloud often sits up there; no big gate.
- Los Anonos parkThis neighborhood park has trees, a short path, and a stream. An hour of shade is the idea. It is not a hike into the ridges behind Escazú.
- National Theatre day tripThe theatre is downtown, and traffic is the real distance. See the foyer or a show, then leave. Ask that day if a daytime tour is running.
- National Museum day tripThe old barracks museum is on Plaza de la Democracia, the same trip down as the theatre. Give the stonework time. Do not drive into town twice.
- Santa Ana nearbyThe next town west sits lower and a little warmer. Square and restaurants fit an evening. The link road is the delay, mostly at meal hours.
- Escazú hillsRidges above the houses are cooler, with views between roofs. Drive up. Wet-season fog sits on top; there is no one trailhead and no ranger post.
The landscape is foothills, city neighborhoods, and green mountains. You are likely to see hummingbirds, clay-colored thrushes, parakeets, butterflies and white-tailed deer on the higher hills. The plants around them are coffee remnants, poró, gardens and cloud-forest edge at Pico Blanco.
Around Escazú, hummingbirds are in the gardens on the ridge at first light. The old square is the town. Deer, if you see them, are higher on the hills, not on the avenues.
Forest protection on Pico Blanco and urban tree cover, which takes day-trip pressure off the steeper hills.
In Escazú, stay on the trail and do not feed what you came to see. That is the rule that keeps this place the way it is.
The climate is mild highland. Spring-like, about 18–27°C. Dry and sunny from December to April. Afternoon rain from May to November. Escazú sits at 1,100 m (3,600 ft).
Pack a light layer for after dark. The days do not need it. The countrywide calendar is in the best time to visit Costa Rica.
The airport for this region is Juan Santamaría in Alajuela. Once you are in the valley, San José traffic matters more than the kilometers.
Traffic decides the time, not the kilometers. A short hop can take an hour. Buses, shuttles, and rental cars are compared in getting around Costa Rica.
