Reserva Conchal, Costa Rica

Receiving plenty of sun year round, this beach is divided in two by a rocky headland, to one side is Playa Brasilito and the other is known as Punta Conchal where the shore is made up of hundreds of millions of tiny crushed shells, making Conchal beach ideal for swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving with the many tropical fish that dwell here, you might even catch a glimpse of several species of stingrays that populate the clearest waters on the Gold Coast.

  • Playa Conchal is also close to a few national parks and nature reserves where you can enjoy panoramic hiking trips into the heart of the dry rainforest jungle.

Accessible by air from San Jose to the domestic airport of Tamarindo, from where you can take a 10-minute taxi ride into town; a 45-minute drive from Liberia International Airport, or a scenic 5 hour drive from San Jose, this fabulous four kilometer beach stretch, in the Guanacaste Region will help you effortlessly create a memorable and warm beach vacation.

One of the best golf courses in Central America, the ‘Garra de Leon’ 18 hole championship Golf Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., is a dreamy few paces away as part of an impressive resort, considered one of the best on the North Pacific coast. A resort day pass is available for those who would like access to the resort grounds and its amenities.

Reserva Conchal itself has no adjoining town. A resort of this caliber is on the pricey side, for those traveling on a budget, Playa Conchal has quite a few areas where one can camp out and sleep under the stars. The town of Brasilito has more affordable lodging options along with a supermarket, a few restaurants and bars.

The community of flamingo is also in close proximity with a full service marina that offers , sportsfishing, boating excursions and water sport rentals, along with a small assortment of classy hotels and restaurants. If you like to surf, Tamarindo and Playa Grande are within a 30 minute radius where you can enjoy riding some amazing waves!

Fun fact:

Conchal get’s its name from the Spanish word for shell: “concha”. The white sand and tiny shell particles arguably make this destination one of the most beautiful beaches in Central America.

Conchal is an excellent home base for day trips such as:

Rincon De La Vieja National Park – a rainforest and volcanic region with great hiking, horseback riding opportunities and canopy ziplining. Visitors can experience natural thermal hot springs, mud baths and more! (96 km/60 miles)

Palo Verde National Park – a (85 km/52 miles)

Whitewater rafting – on the Tenorio or Colorado River.

Sport fishing – take your pick of inshore or offshore adventures or river fishing.
